*****************Change Log 11/03/06*************************

*Options dialog fixed

*****************Known Bugs*********************************

*Search Bar still not right - Dropmarker(currently disabled) &
Search button not redering properly (20%-complete)

*Coding is still a mess -LOT'S of old stuff to toss out.(No CSS Errors though!)

*??TBD??Still testing...

Overall it's functionality and performance is great
and all errors seem to be graphical(missing/not showing 'minor css tweaks'),
except for one(1) xul error (can someone maybe explain this?)
its seems to be fully functional.
Also I gave the toolbars a sleeker look, we like?
please comment (here or elsewhere [link])
and let me know what you think.

Please report any 'bugs' and incompatible extension(s) :D

Thanks alot,

Seems there will be no more changes to the themes as far as 2.0 is concerned :please:
so hopefully I can lock this down soon.

Help! I dont know how to drag this to themes!
Caziban Featured By Owner Nov 16, 2007
Very nice

Advanced Critique?

Personally, those highlights above bars to give it a "bubbly" look, are very ugly in my opinion.

It kinda reminds me of Safari
Which I love

Hmm... The black doesn't really appear to be black...

Appears to be almost a very, very, dark, dark purple.

I personally believe that if you got rid of the highlights it'd look nicer.

Wow, just noticed the status-bar
That's the best Firefox Status Bar I've ever seen!

Nice job!

Overall, I'd easily give it an 8-10

So... Erm... Is this abandoned now? There hasn't been an update in like, nine or ten months, and the theme isn't finished yet...

Can those of us left wondering, get an update please?

My beloved Black Japan!

I had this theme before I updated to 2.0 and I loved it to bits, and was greatly disappointed when it wouldn't function with 2.0 (I even tried regressing back to the older version to use this theme again.)

But alas, I couldn't, and I was stuck with a much more inferior theme until I had the bright idea to look on deviantart for a much better theme! And I've been reunited with my beloved Black Japan! :D

Thank you so much for continuing this theme. !

Thank you for continuing this. I've always used BlackJapan on my laptop and I'm glad to see that it's avalible for my updated FF. :)
homietuba Featured By Owner May 15, 2007
Good stuff.

Just upgraded to 2.0 and was worried about having the stupid looking stock interface.

Got my good ol' Black Japan back and better too.

Thanks dude!

I saw a preview of this and is waiting for the FF v.2. I'd like to know, what program do you need to download this?
Czechnology Featured By Owner Mar 10, 2007
You don't need no special program.
Just download it.
Then open the Plugins window and drag'n'drop the downloaded file.
Say 'yes' to the installation.

Thank you for taking this over, and for fixing the close buttons on the tabs... this is the only theme i've kept for than a few minutes...
LiquidKojima Featured By Owner Feb 19, 2007
Great ! thank you very much, i love this theme.
BondageWare Featured By Owner Feb 17, 2007
hey, thanx for taking over, one of the best themes (imho) for firefox

my only problem at the moment is the address bar having the bottom cut off
YamiOni Featured By Owner Feb 8, 2007
So... Um... It's been a while now... Is this ever going to move out of beta? I'd hate to see a great theme like this just fade into the ether...
Czechnology Featured By Owner Jan 22, 2007
Another satisfied user here!

Could someone advise me please, if there's some freeware possibility to change also the looks of my WinXP? I'm bored with the silver theme :D
(i'm a total newbie in that, never tried to do that)

OMG im so glad i found this XD i upgraded to the firefox 2 and i hated using the default skin it sucks and this is totally awsome. Its one of the only black themes and its sooooo cool:D
frankkk Featured By Owner Jan 18, 2007
not sure know, but I figure it *is* to do with BlackJapan as it is visible in the default theme:

(note: it is the bottom close button)
frankkk Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2007
Great stuff!

noticed one thing so far....I don't see the close button on the far right anymore...

I have played with my configuration and switched off the close button on the individual tabs, so perhaps that is interfering with it....however, other themes still show the button e.g.

I can still click in that area and the tab with focus will actually close though....
Zeratul13 Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2007
as far as i know that is the windows theme. the blackjapan doesnt have anything to do with it
shinigami-kumori Featured By Owner Jan 16, 2007  Student
Great theme except where do I download it to?
Selenium17 Featured By Owner Jan 10, 2007
Anyone know who's maintaining this theme now? A link for an updated version?

Great theme, definitely one of my favorites for Firefox. One thing though... I am unable to see the favicon for the sites that are on my Favorites Toolbar. It just gives me the default logo for all of them.

The favicons for sites show up just fine in my Bookmarks.

I'm figuring that you already know about this, but just in case, I figured I'd mention it. Or is this just something on my system? The favicons definitely work fine with other FF themes.

YOU my friend, deserve part of the internet for this, its the only theme i use :D

Soooo....... any plans for an update........
Kashikoi Featured By Owner Dec 23, 2006
I love your theme and have been using it for I don't know how long. Thing is, I updated to FF 2.0, and among my many, many aggrivations in doing so, this theme didn't work. So I went ahead and searched and found this, your BJ2.0 beta. I downloaded it and tried to put it on (by going to "tools>themes" in the Firefox toolbar then dragging-and-dropping the file in there) and, lo and behold, it doesn't work. I'm under the imression that the file is corrupted, or something.. I'm slightly dissapointed by that, since I really do like this theme alot, and the standard theme has become sort of an eyesore. If you could help me out, I'd appreciate. I might just be doing something way wrong, though...
Kashikoi Featured By Owner Dec 23, 2006
Actually, I'm sorry to bother you, it was simply a problem with Firefox itself. Your file is fine, and Black Japan looks better than before! So sorry to say that it didn't work. :)

you my friend, are not considered a god to me. i've been waiting and waiting and looking for a black japan skin compatible with Firefox 2.0
blackbird05 Featured By Owner Dec 12, 2006
Great Job on picking it up!

-buttons on top of all in one sidebar panes are screwed up (ex.: the install and find update buttons on the add-ons themes pane)
-when loading a page with tab mix plus, the loading/progress bar blots out the text on the tab
-close buttons for tabs are invisible when not selecting that tab
YamiOni Featured By Owner Dec 12, 2006
Incompatibility Report: (kinda)

It seems that Down Them All ([link]) is not fully compatible with this theme. The text for the Inclusive filters in the main window (Tools->DTA->DTA) become illegible/disappear when this theme is in use. If you don't need to change those options, everything works fine, otherwise you can't see what you are changing... :(

All that aside, this is a great theme. I'm looking forward to you getting all the bugs worked out, and getting it posted on the Mozilla site so it can get the attention it deserves!

Yes finally! I love this theme and I was bummed to see I couldn't get it with FireFox 2. Thank you for putting it up!

OH MY GOD!!!! thank you for updating :D no problems so far...beautiful theme as always ;o
EternalNewbie Featured By Owner Nov 28, 2006
Hi again,

an update on my bugs:

1) 'Grey block around Adblock' - This seems to bee a problem with Adblock as I have noticed it other themes like 'Mostly Crystal' , it is just less noticable in them. I will try Adblock Plus and see if also has the same problem.

2) The grey area around the scrollbox in the Add-ons dialog box is actually the Firefox 'pinstripe' texture.
Danny-Darko Featured By Owner Nov 25, 2006
Awesome! I'm so happy to have this theme back!

Looks like everything is pretty solid aside from a few graphics that need tweaking. Aside from the address bar looking a little chopped (which I believe was mentioned already), it looks like the close tab button on the tab itself is a little screwy.

When I have tab mix plus enabled the close tab button is only visible on the tab in focus. It disappears on all the others. It still works, you just can't see it.

With tab mix disabled the button is visible again on the out of focus tabs, as well as an extra (non functioning) close tab graphic to the left of it.

Those are the only issues I've found so far, and I'm looking forward to the finished product.

dragon695 Featured By Owner Nov 24, 2006
You might want to check out the latest 1.x versions of the *Shift themes, which are based off of the BlackJapan code and contain a bunch of fixes for various extensions. Perhaps you'll want to incorporate them back into BlackJapan?

Oh, and I agree with the other guy, pick up crayoloa's other themes.
zendu Featured By Owner Nov 24, 2006
Thanks, I'm looking forward to the formal release.

I only mention this because of advanced critique, but the white highlights at the top seem a little too white to me. Doesnt matter though, still the best skin out there.
EternalNewbie Featured By Owner Nov 23, 2006
Hi, thanks for taking over BlackJapan :)

Now for the bug report :(

I'm running FF2.0 on Slackware 11.0, Xorg 6.9 usually with XFCE, sometimes Fluxbox 1.0rc2

1) When running Adblock, the 'Adblock' block in the extreme right of the status bar is surrounded by an ugly grey block

2) On the the Add-ons dialog box the area between the dialog box border and the content window (the bit with the scrollbar) seems unthemed - it seems to be the default Firefox 2.0 grey. It seems a bit tto light for the GTK grey.
EternalNewbie Featured By Owner Nov 23, 2006
Hi me again,

Just enabled Tab Mix Plus, and the progress bar on the tab is misplaced to the top of the tab (I remember BlackJapan had similar problems with Tab Mix Plus before).

Keep up the good work
dragon695 Featured By Owner Nov 24, 2006
A good place too look for fixes is RedShift 1.x, which is based off the blackjapan theme code.
Limma-kun Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2006
I found that with the FireBug extension the tabs that select the different options show the text as black on a black background unless they are selected, also do you have any intention to update Aquatint?
tylermatrix Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2006
Man can you make this visual style for windows?

Or just the buttons for use it with Styler? Just for change my explorer bar for this with styler
tessmonsta Featured By Owner Nov 15, 2006
Ahhhhhhhhh! Thank you!

There are some bugs in the tab bar, but I'm sure you knew that (and are on top of it) already.
houseofg Featured By Owner Nov 15, 2006
THANKS for resurrecting this theme! Once you lock this down are you going to post it on Mozilla? I assume you've seen all the people begging, no, groveling, for a 2.0 update in the BlackJapan and BlackJapanMAX comments. I keep posting the link to your deviantart page, but as soon as my comment scrolls off the page, the groveling starts up again.
You may want to introduce this to the Mozilla masses ;-)
Thanks again for taking the baton on this.
Selenium17 Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2006
Wow, nevermind, both things I mentioned were because of Fission. Can you update this to make them get along?
Selenium17 Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2006
This was my fave theme. I think this version would be again if the URL bar wasn't so wacky. I can't even see the text because it's black on black. Also, I use the extension 'Fission'(which can be found here: [link]), and it puts the progress bar into the URL bar, and it just looks wacky with this theme(try it and see for yourself). I'll wait this out a little. Fantastic work though, this is much better than my attempt.
testsubject713 Featured By Owner Nov 13, 2006
ah, please ignore my last comment. x__x; I was able to download it through my IE, but I still can't get it into the themes choice.
YamiOni Featured By Owner Nov 13, 2006
Okay... I'm not going to gripe too much about you not reading the previous posts, (or maybe you did,) because I found the others a little unclear myself... Here is how to install the theme... (I'm assuming you're using firefox to read this...)

Download the file by left-clicking "download" at the top right of the page, and save the file someplace where you will remember where it is. After that is done, open up the themes window in firefox. Find the file (where-ever you saved it earlier,) and left-click and drag the icon into the themes window (where the names appear to the left,) and release the mouse button. Firefox will see the theme file and automatically install it. Naturally you will need to restart firefox to switch to it, but I am sure you know to do that...

Best of luck ;)
testsubject713 Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2006
Yes, I had read the other posts. n__n; But, I had tried this before, but when I tried to drag the .zip folder into themes, my cursor changed to the unavailable. I figured this might be because it was a .zip folder, so I extracted everything and tried to drag all of it to the themes, but some of the files are .rdf and my computer can't read those.
